Glassmanor-Oxon Hill Sustainable Community Renewal

Community Planning staff is currently working on the renewal application for the Glassmanor-Oxon Hill Sustainable Community (SC). The SC area was designated by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development in March 2016, and is up for renewal in March 2021. Two workgroup meetings have been held with community leaders and agency representatives to identify accomplishments, review area strengths and weakness, and action plan for the next five years. HERE is the link to the Sustainable Community boundary. For more information on the renewal application, please contact the project manager at: Sam.white@ppd.mncppc.org

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development’s (DHCD) Sustainable Communities Program is a place-based designation offering a comprehensive package of resources that support holistic strategies for community development, revitalization and sustainability. Led by the Department, Sustainable Communities has provided local governments with a framework for promoting environmentally, economically and socially responsible growth and development in existing older communities.

Although most municipalities and communities in Prince George’s County prepared their Sustainable Communities applications and obtained the designation, the Planning Department prepared Sustainable Communities applications and obtained the designation for several municipalities and communities within the county with limited capacity to undertake the task. Planning Department continues to assist in their renewal applications. Sustainable Communities applications prepared by the department are shown with asterisks.
