For Families

story timeThe College Park Aviation Museum is family-friendly and filled with hands-on, interactive exhibits. Touch, explore, and sit in the cockpit of our "Imagination Plane", a 1939 blue Taylorcraft. Visit our hands-on room to learn about flight and to dress like a pilot. Fly away in one of our simulators or play on our outdoor pedal planes. There are many options for any family to choose from.

The museum also offers exciting family programs and special events throughout the year!

See our calendar for specific dates and other family-friendly special events.

Peter Pan Club

The Peter Pan Club is the College Park Aviation Museum's pre-school learning club. Join us for aviation stories and activities the second and fourth Thursdays of every month.

This activity is free with regular museum admission, and reservations are not required. The Peter Pan Club starts at 10:30 am and generally lasts about an hour.

Afternoon Aviators

Afternoon Aviators is a weekly series for children ages five and up. Join us for fun hands-on aviation themed activities. Activities range from making your own paper airplane to playing a game of aviation bingo. This program is held every Friday from 2pm to 4:30pm and is free with regular museum admission.

Wilbur's Workshop

Get a taste of the work that went into making early aircraft with a rib-making demonstration in Wilbur’s Hangar. Come watch as a 1909 Wright wing rib is constructed and one lucky person will win the rib to take home with them. This program is held the 4th Tuesday of every month at 3pm and is free with museum admission.

The museum also offers public and private group Wright Aeroplane Rib-making Workshops. This is a wonderful program for scouts, civic and school groups of either adults or children over the age of 7. Each participant engineers and constructs an authentic 1909 Wright Brothers Wing Rib using the patterns, materials, and tools similar to those used by the Wrights in building their Wright Military Flyer.

The next public workshops are September 13 and December 13. Both will begin at 1 pm. A $7 workshop fee per participant includes supplies and museum admission. You can sign up for the public workshops at any of the Wilbur's Workshops or call the museum. Call 301-864-6029 to schedule private group workshops as well.
